The Baltimore Ravens’ head of security was charged Tuesday with committing a sex offense, according to a report.

The Baltimore Suns says Darren Sanders, the senior director of security for the team, was charged with a fourth-degree sex offense from allegations made Dec. 14.

The Sun says a fourth-degree sex offense is punishable by a maximum of a year in jail or a fine of $1,000, or both.

Sanders was a central figure in the Ray Rice investigation. Sanders said he contacted police and the casino for the video of Ray Rice’s February assault on wife Janay and said the incident was described to him. He also said Rice told him he slapped Janay but did not punch her. There were questions about how much Sanders told the Ravens’ front office about the video.

Sanders previously was a Baltimore homicide detective, but he has been with the Ravens over 10 years. In 2004, he was charged when he accidentally discharged his gun while attending a Maryland basketball game with Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti.

The Ravens say they are investigating the matter, while Sanders’ attorney told Pro Football Talk the accusation was fabricated.
