Ray Lewis issues heartfelt apology for criticizing Joe Flacco

Ray Lewis took a lot of heat for questioning Joe Flacco’s passion for the game of football last week, and the future Hall of Famer has since issued a heartfelt apology.

In a video he posted on Twitter Monday morning, Lewis apologized for calling out Flacco and said it will never happen again.

“Joe Flacco, what I was talking about, my brother, it wasn’t even about you. It wasn’t personal,” Lewis said. “It was just me being frustrated watching something that I had control over for so many years, which was men and inspiring them to go on and do things.

“Guess what. Like everybody else, I lashed out at the quarterback because that’s the person who’s supposed to carry us or do whatever.”

Lewis added that Flacco has his own personality and that “is what it is.” He also subtly responded to former teammate and fellow ex-NFL linebacker Bart Scott, who ripped Lewis for bashing a player that helped bring him another Super Bowl.

“It’s funny because I heard people speak all week about, ‘He carried you to a Super Bowl.’ Let me correct you,” Lewis said. “No, we carried each other. That’s what champions do. That’s what teams do. They carry each other.

“Maybe my frustration came because I couldn’t help, I couldn’t do nothing. But I can say I’m sorry, my brother.”

In all likelihood, Lewis meant exactly what he said about Flacco. That wasn’t the first time Lewis has called out Flacco, as he also questioned his leadership a couple years back following an embarrassing incident on a party bus involving Ravens players. Still, Lewis realized how much of a cheap shot it was and is trying to make amends.

Flacco, who said he was surprised by Lewis’ remarks, has never really seen eye-to-eye with Lewis. That was evident when the quarterback once shared his thoughts about the fiery speeches Lewis used to give.
