Redskins will reportedly franchise or transition tag Kirk Cousins
The Washington Redskins are reportedly prepared to take the first step toward keeping Kirk Cousins on their roster for the 2016 season.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Redskins have decided to use either the franchise tag or transition tag on Cousins.
Redskins are tagging QB Kirk Cousins, per league source. Only decision left is whether team uses franchise or transition tag on him.

The franchise tag would give Cousins a one-year deal for next season worth $19.7 million. The transition tag would allow him to test the open market and give the Redskins an opportunity to match any contract offer he received.
The recent report about contract talks between Cousins and the Redskins hitting a snag were likely a power play from one of the two sides. With very few options expected to be available on the open market (Sam Bradford, anyone?), there’s little chance Washington lets Cousins walk.
