Report: Redskins to stick with Kirk Cousins, Jay Gruden for season

Kirk Cousins RedskinsThere have been many calls for the Washington Redskins to make a change at quarterback, but it does not look like that is going to happen any time soon.

ESPN’s Britt McHenry reports that 2-4 Washington will stick with Kirk Cousins at quarterback and Jay Gruden as head coach for the season unless things go really badly:

Cousins has played competent enough at quarterback to lead the Redskins to two wins and keep them in most of their games. Even after Cousins threw two interceptions in a loss to the Jets — giving him eight in six games — Gruden expressed support for the quarterback.

Maybe the Redskins realize there is a key ingredient they have been missing: consistency. It’s hard to achieve success when you are constantly cycling through quarterbacks and head coaches the way they have.

Though Colt McCoy is a decent option as a backup and they still have Robert Griffin III on the roster, none of these three players are the long-term answer for the team. In my opinion, they might as well stick with Cousins unless he becomes so bad that he’s the reason they’re losing games. For now, as long as he keeps them in games, he’s just as good of an answer as any of their other options. Keeping him at quarterback also helps the team avoid something else that made them a laughingstock: all the drama.
