Report: Browns would welcome back Josh Gordon

Josh Gordon

It certainly seems like a long shot, but if Josh Gordon were to ever get his life turned around, the Cleveland Browns reportedly would welcome him back in a football capacity.

NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo reports that the Browns would welcome Gordon back, but there are some conditions.

“If Gordon somehow gets his life in order … if he can get back on the straight and narrow … the Browns would welcome him back,” Garafolo said Thursday.

Gordon has not played in the NFL since 2014. He was a second-round pick in the 2012 supplemental draft and scored five touchdowns as a rookie. He was brilliant in his second season as he caught 87 passes for 1,646 yards and nine touchdowns. But Gordon’s struggles with marijuana, which led him to bounce around in college and eventually enter the supplemental draft, got him in trouble in the NFL.

Gordon was denied reinstatement by the league and will have an opportunity to apply for reinstatement in the fall.

About the only way we could imagine Gordon returning to the field would be in the case that the league removes marijuana off the substance abuse policy. At that point, he would have to get sober when it comes to alcohol too.

Gordon’s case is such a long shot that even his agent reportedly left him recently.
