Report: Cowboys not in running for Adrian Peterson

Adrian Peterson

The Dallas Cowboys are reportedly not interested in making a trade for Adrian Peterson.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that the Cowboys have no interest in making a trade for the 30-year-old running back. That could have something to do with Peterson’s age and the money he is still owed, or it could be more about the Vikings wanting too much in return for Peterson if they decide to deal him.

According to Rapoport, the Vikings are adamant that Peterson will play for them or no one. That likely means they would have to be blown away to be convinced to trade him, and it’s doubtful any team is willing to give up a franchise-altering amount of assets for an aging running back who is owed nearly $13 million in 2015.

There is some speculation that the Arizona Cardinals could still make a move for Peterson if they are unable to draft a running back like Melvin Gordon or Todd Gurley in the first round on Thursday. However, the Cardinals reportedly feel that Peterson’s contract would be a deal-breaker, and there has been no indication that he is willing to restructure.

While there have been a ton of rumors linking Peterson to the Cowboys, the team has said publicly that it isn’t going to happen. Peterson’s agent can continue to play games by sharing photos like this on social media, but the Vikings really hold all the leverage in this situation.
