Rex Ryan says Sammy Watkins will ‘definitely’ play against Jets
Sammy Watkins is reportedly having some issues with pain in his surgically-repaired foot, but Rex Ryan says the star wideout is not going to miss Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
Ryan told reporters on Tuesday that Watkins is “definitely” going to play.
“I’m assuming what he said is accurate,” Ryan said, referring to Watkins insisting he is not going to miss time.
Watkins is said to have undergone X-rays following Buffalo’s Week 1 loss against the Baltimore Ravens, and doctors told him there is no structural damage in his foot that can be repaired. The former Clemson star underwent surgery after breaking his foot during the offseason, and one report claims he is dealing with severe pain.
The Bills obviously need Watkins, who was animated in calling out the team last year, to be at his best in order to get the most out of their passing game. The 23-year-old’s talent is undeniable, but there are few injuries that can limit a wide receiver’s explosiveness like a foot injury can.
