Rex Ryan reportedly signs with ESPN, will join Sunday NFL Countdown

Rex Ryan

Many expected Rex Ryan to explore the possibility of landing a full-time job in television after he was fired by the Buffalo Bills, and that is apparently exactly what he has decided to do.

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News is reporting that Ryan has signed a multi-year deal with ESPN to become a permanent fixture on the popular “Sunday NFL Countdown” segment. Ryan appeared on “Sunday NFL Countdown” as a guest analyst on Super Bowl Sunday, so it’s no surprise he has decided to sign with ESPN.

Ryan spent six seasons as the New York Jets’ head coach from 2009-2014, taking the team to two AFC Championship Games. Then he spent the last two in Buffalo and was fired after Week 16 after going 7-8.

The 54-year-old coach is known for his big mouth and humor as much as he is for his coaching, so you can understand why TV networks rushed to sign him. If Ryan is half as entertaining on ESPN as he was during press conferences like this, he should be a natural fit.
