Richard Sherman: Earl Thomas deserves to be paid like top safety in league

Earl Thomas

Richard Sherman is sticking up for his former Legion of Boom teammate.

Sherman spoke with NFL Network’s Michael Robinson at Robinson’s football camp in Virginia on Saturday. Sherman talked about Thomas’ contract situation and said the Seattle Seahawks safety deserves to be compensated like the best safety in the league.

“I think Earl Thomas deserves the money he’s asking for,” Sherman told Robinson. “I think he deserves to be compensated as the top safety in the league. Whether Seattle does that or not is up to them.”

Thomas, 29, is entering the final season of his contract and set to make $8.5 million this season. He has not attended the Seahawks’ voluntary offseason program. Seattle has reshaped their defense this offseason and was in trade talks about Thomas, but they have kept him on the roster.

It looks like Thomas will end up playing out the season in Seattle and look to cash in next year.
