Richard Sherman reportedly will be released in next few days

Richard Sherman could be hitting the free agent market in the coming days.

NFL Media’s Mike Silver reported on Wednesday that Sherman is likely to be released in the coming days so that he can explore free agency. Earlier in the day, NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport said Sherman had been telling his teammates goodbye.

The Seahawks may try to trade Sherman first before releasing him. Seattle also reportedly is said to be open to bringing back Sherman for a reduced salary if he is unable to find a deal to his liking elsewhere.

Sherman, 29, was set to make $11 million in the upcoming season. He is coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon suffered last season and also had a cleanup procedure on his other Achilles.

Silver also reported that the Seahawks are open to trades for Earl Thomas.

The anticipated dismantling of the “Legion of Boom” this offseason seems to be taking shape. The team already traded Michael Bennett on Wednesday, may be releasing Sherman soon, and there are questions about the health of Kam Chancellor and Cliff Avril.
