Richie Incognito suspended indefinitely by Dolphins

Richie Incognito DolphinsThe Miami Dolphins suspended offensive lineman Richie Incognito indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team, according to a report.

Incognito, who has been with the Dolphins since 2010 and is part of the team’s leadership council, has been accused of being the primary bully of Jonathan Martin. Martin, a 2012 second-round pick, left the team last week after snapping following a prank in the cafeteria.

The roots of Martin’s issues go much deeper than the prank; reports have said that the harassment of Martin has been ongoing since the tackle’s rookie season.

FOX’s Mike Garafolo says Martin’s representatives informed the team and league that Incognito has sent Martin multiple threatening and racially-charged text messages. CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora reported on Sunday that Martin is “genuinely scared” of Incognito. Those text messages might be part of the reason why.

Despite the reports of the problems between the players, a text message conversation between Martin and Incognito became public on Friday. In the text conversation, Martin called Incognito “buddy” and said he left the team because he had grown tired of the football culture and locker room.

Incognito went on a Twitter crusade early Sunday in an attempt to clear his name.

The Dolphins have asked the NFL to investigate the situation.
