Rob Gronkowski’s agents will not say if TE plans to play in 2018

Rob Gronkowski

Rob Gronkowski could put an end to all of the talk about him retiring if he simply came out and said he will be with the New England Patriots in 2018, but the tight end clearly isn’t ready to do that yet.

After yet another report this week indicated that Gronkowski has seriously considered retirement, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reached out to the 28-year-old’s agents to see if they had any comment on their client’s future.

“We’re not going to talk about that,” Drew and Jason Rosenhaus told Howe. “That’s personal.”

Gronkowski is set to make $9 million in cash next season and $10 million in 2019, so it would not be a surprise if he’s back with the Patriots when offseason workouts begin. However, there has been enough information to conclude that the retirement talk is real.

While many believe the concussion Gronkowski suffered in the AFC Championship Game was one of a number of significant injuries that have him wondering if he wants to keep playing, one Patriots reporter says Gronk was considering retirement before the 2017 season began. He is apparently frustrated with the culture in New England as much as anything else.
