Report: Rob Gronkowski received knee injection at hospital

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski is experiencing issues with the same knee he injured against the Denver Broncos in Week 12.

Mike Reiss and Adam Schefter of ESPN are reporting that Gronkowski spent part of Thursday in a Boston-area hospital receiving treatment on his right knee. The treatment included some sort of injection, which could have been for pain management.

Gronkowski missed practice Tuesday and was limited Wednesday before missing Thursday’s session for treatment. Reports have indicated that his knee is bothering him after he tweaked it, and this seems consistent with that.

While the Patriots are known for toying with opponents and reportedly believe Gronkowski will play, this is obviously a legitimate concern. Gronk wasn’t quite as effective down the stretch of the season after injuring the knee, and anyone who has seen the video of his injury knows it looked fairly significant.

The Patriots have made the playoffs four times with Gronkowski, and he has only been completely healthy for one of those playoff runs — last year when they won the Super Bowl.
