Report: Rob Gronkowski not expected to retire

Rob Gronkowski has yet to commit to playing football next season, but New England Patriots fans can breathe a sigh of relief after the latest report surrounding the tight end’s future.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Media, Gronkowski took several weeks to ponder retirement and potentially pursuing a career in acting or professional wrestling, but ultimately he feels that those future endeavors can wait.

Whether Gronk plays in 2018 or not, it seems obvious that he has really considered hanging up the cleats. Patriots reporter Tom E. Curran said this week that Gronkowski actually considered retiring during training camp last year and was butting heads with the Patriots over his rehab from back surgery.

Gronkowski is only 28 and is set to make nearly $20 million over the next two seasons, so walking away from that would be tough. While the injuries have piled up, he has been working with Tom Brady’s personal trainer Alex Guerrero and was as healthy last year as he has been in his career. If he really wants to join the WWE, he’ll have plenty of time to do that after he’s done playing football.
