Rob Gronkowski to miss ‘multiple weeks’ with knee injury?

Darian-Stewart-Rob-Gronkowski-hit

There are differing reports regarding the extent of the injury Rob Gronkowski suffered Sunday night against the Denver Broncos. While the consensus seems to be that Gronk avoided anything close to a season-ending injury, he could still miss multiple games.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Monday afternoon that Gronkowski is not expected to play against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend and could miss time after that.

That report is inconsistent with what we heard earlier. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network is hearing that Gronkowski will miss one game at most. A separate report indicated that an MRI revealed only bruising in Gronk’s knee and no structural damage.

If you saw the play where Gronkowski was injured (video here), you know that anything better than a very serious injury is a bonus for the Patriots. But there is a big difference between missing one game “at most” and missing multiple weeks.

The Patriots, who are as secretive about injuries as any team in the NFL, aren’t going to give any indication of when Gronkowski will be ready. With games upcoming against the Eagles, Texans and Titans, it’s possible that Bill Belichick doesn’t want to risk running Gronk out there when he is at less than 100 percent health. The playoffs are the priority for the Patriots.
