Robert Griffin III said Redskins players were frustrated with playcalling

Robert Griffin III

You didn’t really think that the controversy surrounding the Washington Redskins was over, did you?

First there was the whole thing about whether or not Robert Griffin III called out his teammates after the embarrassing loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Then you had Jay Gruden saying RG3 should just worry about himself, comments for which he later apologized.

But it doesn’t end there.

DC Sports Bog points out that Griffin also indicated the players were frustrated with the playcalling.

“We’re all frustrated. Coach is frustrated, players are frustrated,” Griffin said on the Redskins Radio Network postgame show. “They want the ball, they want more carries, they don’t like this defense [call], they don’t like this offensive call. It doesn’t matter, man. At the end of the day, whatever Coach calls, you run that play, you run it to the best of your ability, and you take care of your business. And I will be the first one to stand up and say I didn’t take care of my business today. And I need everyone to do the same.”

Also in the interview, Griffin said some of the same things he said in his general media news conference. He talked about how he didn’t play well enough and how several players didn’t play well enough.

Maybe the playcalling wasn’t great, and maybe some players need to do better, but Griffin also played poorly. He threw two bad interceptions and missed DeSean Jackson on what could have been a couple of big plays to change the game.

The 3-7 Redskins will visit the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
