Robert Griffin III to be released by Redskins

Robert-Griffin-braids

The Washington Redskins informed Robert Griffin III on Monday that he will be released, according to multiple reports.

Griffin will now be able to test free agency after the Redskins paid him $16.1 million last season to not take a single snap. While it has long been known that the Redskins would part ways with RG3 this offseason, the team likely tried to trade him for a low-round draft pick before deciding to release him.

Griffin reportedly drew trade interest from at least two teams, but obviously the interested teams were not willing to offer enough to make it worthwhile for the Redskins.

While his career has steadily gone downhill since his rookie year, RG3 is just 26 and has shown he can succeed if put in the right situation. That is likely why so many teams are said to be interested in signing him. Griffin will be a low-risk, high-reward signing for whoever picks him up.
