Russell Wilson takes shot at Bleacher Report for grading Seahawks’ 2012 draft an F

russell-wilson-seahawksThe Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl champions, which automatically validates almost everything the team has done over the course of the past few seasons. Pete Carroll and company have obviously drafted well and signed the right free agents. Although, one Bleacher Report writer thought the Seahawks fell flat on their faces in the 2012 NFL Draft.

In April 2012, the Seahawks drafted Russell Wilson. They also used one of their picks in the 2012 NFL Draft to acquire Marshawn Lynch in 2010. Those two, among others, have been kind of important to Seattle’s success. Wilson reminded everyone of that on Wednesday.

Here’s what Bleacher Report’s Donald Wood had to say about Wilson and the Seahawks at the time:

Pete Carroll is proving why he didn’t make it in the NFL the first time. Not only was Bruce Irvin a reach at No. 15, the Seahawks proved they were oblivious to their madness by celebrating their selection.

As if the day wasn’t bad enough, Seattle selecting Russell Wilson, a QB that doesn’t fit their offense at all, was by far the worst move of the draft. With the two worst moves of the draft, Seattle is the only team that received an F on draft day.

The Seahawks also drafted linebacker Bobby Wagner in the second round of the 2012 draft. The former Utah State star has recorded 260 combined tackles in two seasons and racked up 34 during this year’s playoffs. Robert Turbin, who has served as a quality compliment to Lynch and could be the future of Seattle’s backfield, was taken in the fourth round.

Enough said.

“In April 2012, the Seahawks acquired such players as Russell Wilson and Marshawn Lynch.”

    You mean Turbin?

  • SteveDelVecchio

What I meant to say was that they used a pick from the 2012 draft to acquire Lynch. Poorly worded on my part. I changed the wording, so it should make more sense now. Thanks for the heads up.

  • Michael Hardy

Hmmm, Well if drafting Wilson and company in 2012 was worth a F, then I will take an F from Donald Wood on every draft from now till the end of the Super Bowl Era!

  • SouthernMaster

Any comment from the so-called expert Donald Wood?

  • Steve Ryan

That’s why some evaluate drafts for football teams and some work for websites.

  • kp419

Well Donald Wood, you can blow that comment out of your BUTT!!! Sucks to be you to be proven so wrong. There’s more than 750,000+ people that think you’re wrong.

  • Steve Speidel

Not only BR but every commentator panned that seahawks draft. Being a Wisconsin alum and having followed Wilson, I was ecstatic when we drafted him.
One of the worst effects of all those assessments being emphatically proven wrong is that no one will dare criticize John Schneider’s picks now. The 2013 draft WAS terrible, proving him mortal.

  • Mr Pants

As a Steelers Fan I am pretty sure we don’t have that many picks from any of our recent drafts still on the team, let alone contributing. Well done Schneider. Congrats to the Hawks
