Russell Wilson wedding was moved out of North Carolina over bathroom law
Russell Wilson and Ciara originally planned to have their wedding in North Carolina but moved it on account of the state’s controversial transgender bathroom law, according to their wedding planner.
Celebrity wedding planner Mindy Weiss told TheKnot that the original plans for a North Carolina wedding were scrapped in protest of the law.
“I did the whole thing — three times,” Weiss said. “They were first getting married in North Carolina, but they called it off due to the transgender bathroom laws. But it was really done.”
The backup destination was Paris, but the couple ended up in the UK due to conflicts with Fashion Week.
Wilson and Ciara are not the first to pull a major event from the state on account of the law, which stipulates that citizens must use the restroom of the gender they were born as, a law criticized as discriminatory.
