Doug Pederson: Sam Bradford could lose starting job by missing workouts

Sam Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles continue to assert that Sam Bradford is their starting quarterback, but that could change if he continues to skip offseason workouts.

Coach Doug Pederson said Saturday that Bradford, who has not been returning the coach’s calls or attending the team’s workouts, may be jeopardizing his starting position by his continued absences.

“Anybody that’s not in any of the 32 offseason programs is losing valuable time at that club,” Pederson said, via Josh Paunil of PhillyMag.com. “So anybody that’s not in the offseason program, yes, would lose the time.”

Pederson was also alluding to contract holdout Fletcher Cox as well, but he spoke specifically about Bradford, namely how long he would have to be absent to put his job in jeopardy.

“I think it depends on how and when he does come back and how fast we can catch him up and put him back in that situation and see where he’s at at that time,” Pederson said. “Again, no one makes the team in April. We’re not making any roster adjustments and letting people go. It’s all about evaluation, and he’s in that evaluation process. But as I’ve said in the past, he was one, Chase [Daniel] is two and we’re moving on from there.”

Bradford is upset with the Eagles trading up to draft Carson Wentz, and he has demanded a trade. One team is said to have interest, but the Eagles may not be willing to give in, and if that’s the case, Bradford is probably hurting himself more than anything else by cutting himself off from the team.
