Sam Bradford shows up to Eagles facility

Sam Bradford

Sam Bradford has apparently made his point and will now start showing up for work.

Bradford, who has demanded that the Philadelphia Eagles trade him and had not returned text or calls from the team for several weeks, finally reported to offseason workouts on Monday. He released a statement saying he is “excited” to be back.

“I’m excited to be back on the field today with my teammates and coaches,” Bradford said, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. “The business-side of football is sometimes a necessary consideration. My attention and efforts are focused on the participation in and preparation for a championship season: I am committed to my teammates and the Eagles organization for nothing less.”

Everyone knows Bradford has no leverage in this situation. He is guaranteed $22 million from the Eagles with the new two-year deal he signed this offseason, so he would only cost himself money by not reporting to camp. And if any team was willing to pay the asking price the Eagles are seeking in a potential trade, why would that team not have just signed Bradford when he was a free agent?

Bradford’s agent made his point when he blasted the team in this rant, but it’s not going to change anything. The Eagles drafted Carson Wentz at No. 2 overall and are planning to use Bradford as their starter in the meantime. The best thing Bradford can do at this point is play well to increase his trade value next offseason.
