Report: Sam Bradford will not ask Eagles for trade (UPDATED)

Sam Bradford

The Philadelphia Eagles made it clear that they plan on drafting their quarterback of the future this year when they traded up to the No. 2 overall pick. Where does that leave Sam Bradford?

Bradford signed a two-year extension with the Eagles this offseason, so they aren’t exactly committed to him long-term. He is said to be upset over Philly trading up, but Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Bradford has no intention of seeking a trade.

Instead, Bradford is intent on winning the starting job and proving he can be a franchise quarterback. Robinson also notes that the Eagles are likely to essentially redshirt whichever quarterback — Carson Wentz or Jared Goff — they draft and allow him to take at least a season to learn the offense.

Even if Bradford is released or benched next season, he is still set to earn $22 million guaranteed. And if he plays well and leads the Eagles to the playoffs in 2016, there’s no reason Doug Pederson couldn’t decide to stick with Bradford for another year and allow the rookie more time to develop.

Now, the only question is which rookie QB will be left for Philly at No. 2.

UPDATE: ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the exact opposite of Robinson, claiming Bradford wants a trade and will not show up to offseason workouts.
