Sammy Watkins celebrates would-be TD too early, gets tackled from behind (GIF)
Sammy Watkins has all of the physical tools to be a really good NFL player for years to come. However, on Sunday, the Buffalo Bills wide receiver made a mental mistake that many will chalk up to him being a rookie.
After hauling in a pass from Kyle Orton early in the second quarter, Watkins took off and looked for all the world like he was headed for a touchdown. Watkins apparently thought so too, as he started to celebrate prematurely.
Not giving up on the play, Saalim Hakim tracked down the rookie, tackling him after an 84-yard gain. Frank Summers scored on a two-yard run so the Bills did end up with a touchdown on the drive, it just took a couple of extra plays.
For Sammy Watkins, I imagine he will stick to celebrating actual touchdowns instead of those of the would-be variety from now on.
