Santana Moss got Native American-themed tattoo

Santana Moss has spent the last 10 seasons of his NFL career with the Washington Redskins, so some would assume the mural he recently had tattooed on his leg has something to do with the franchise he has spent most of his career with. That doesn’t appear to be the case.

Earlier this week, Moss discussed his new tattoo with Chad Dukes on 106.7 The Fan.

“You know, I’ve heard so much about my mom’s side — she [has] a lot of Cherokee Indians in the family, starting back with my grandmother and her mom and their mom — so I just wanted to do something honoring them,” Moss explained, per Dan Steinberg of DC Sports Bog. “And it came about, and I told him what I wanted — look up some chiefs, look up this and that. And he just put a little mural together for me and he went to work on my leg.”

The tattoo is obviously a tribute to Moss’s heritage. Given the recent drama surrounding the Redskins team name, Moss was asked if he is concerned about people drawing the conclusion that his new ink has something to do with the racially-charged debate.

“Don’t bother me; I won’t bother you,” he said.

For what it’s worth, @RedskinsFacts — a Twitter account dedicated to supporting the Redskins nickname — tweeted its support of Moss’s new tattoo.
