Scot McCloughan reportedly hired by Browns as draft consultant

Scot McCloughan

Scot McCloughan has continued to running a scouting service evaluating NFL talent even after his messy divorce with the Washington Redskins last year, and the executive has now landed a new job with the Cleveland Browns.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Browns have hired McCloughan to serve as a consultant for the 2018 NFL Draft.

Before he became the general manager of the Redskins in 2015, McCloughan ran a scouting service where he offered teams his opinion on draft prospects. He resumed with that business after Washington fired him last March, and he advised multiple teams on players leading up to the 2017 NFL Draft.

McCloughan has always been one of the most respected talent evaluators in football, and the Redskins seemingly smeared his name on the way out the door with reports leaking that he was having alcohol relapses. He has since filed a grievance against Washington, and some have predicted that the organization could end up looking bad if details emerge from the way McCloughan’s termination was handled.

The Browns pick at the top of every round in the upcoming draft and have one additional first-round pick — No. 4 overall — and two additional second-round picks. If they choose wisely, they have a great chance to start rebuilding their franchise. McCloughan should be able to help with that.
