Seahawks reportedly fire offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to make some significant changes this offseason, and at least one of them will be to their coaching staff.

Curtis Crabtree of Pro Football Talk reported early Wednesday morning that Seattle has fired offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell, who had been with the team since 2011.

The Seahawks missed the playoffs this season for the first time in Bevell’s seven seasons with the team. While Seattle had some great offensive success and was at one point one of the best rushing teams in the league under Bevell, things have not been the same since Super Bowl XLIX three years ago. Russell Wilson was forced to put the Seahawks on his back this season, as the offensive line was terrible for a second straight year and the rushing game was one of the worst in football. As Crabtree notes, Seattle ranked just 23rd in the league in rushing and got 586 of their 1,629 rushing yards from Wilson.

While Pete Carroll has tried to take responsibility for the infamous decision to throw the ball at the 1-yard line in Super Bowl XLIX, Bevell has taken the brunt of the punishment for the mind-blowing loss to the New England Patriots. Many believe the Seahawks still have not recovered from that.

In addition to searching for a new offensive coordinator, the Seahawks will likely be parting ways with several members of their once-feared “Legion of Boom” defense. It could be very difficult for Carroll to lead his team to the postseason in 2018.
