Seahawks P Jon Ryan did Discount Double Check belt celebration at Mike McCarthy (Video)

Punters are usually the forgotten people on football teams, but Jon Ryan did his best to make sure the Packers remembered who he was.

Ryan helped turn things around for the Seahawks in the NFC Championship Game against Green Bay by throwing a touchdown pass to Garry Gilliam on a fake field goal to make it 16-7 Packers in the third quarter. After throwing for the score, Ryan pointed at Packers coach Mike McCarthy and taunted him with the Aaron Rodgers “Discount Double Check” belt celebration.

The taunt was brief but golden. Ryan said after the game that much like Squints Palledorous, he’d been planning it for years!

Ryan told USA Today’s Tom Pelissero he’d been planning it since, “Uh, when was I cut?”

He was cut by the Packers in 2008.

“I did the belt,” Ryan said, laughing, “right at (Packers coach) Mike McCarthy.”

Ryan told Pelissero the taunt was all in good fun.

“It was all in fun obviously. I have nothing but respect for Mike McCarthy. When I was in Green Bay, he was great to me. Just like Aaron Rodgers when he does it, it’s all in fun. No one takes things serious.”

No, they don’t take it seriously. Ryan isn’t the first opponent to taunt the Packers with the Discount Double Check. The good news is Rodgers is a competitor and says he loves it when opponents taunt him by doing it.
