Sean Payton: Report that Drew Brees will miss several games is ‘inaccurate’

Drew Brees

New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton disputed a report that quarterback Drew Brees will miss several games with a shoulder injury.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that the Saints believe Brees’ shoulder injury will cause him to miss games and possibly several games. He is said to have a bruised rotator cuff, and his status may depend on how he responds to treatment.

Payton called Rapoport’s report “inaccurate” and said the team will have a better idea on Wednesday about how long Brees will be out.

“I would say his report is inaccurate,” Payton said on WWL radio in an interview with Bobby Hebert. “Wednesday we will have a better idea. We will be smart. I thought coming off the game, it’s a tough loss for everyone. You lose your home opener in a division game. Drew battled and hung in there. He took some hits. We will have a better feel on Wednesday with where he is at. (Bobby) knows as well as anyone, he’s going to be a competitor and he’s going to be smart about it. I think we will have a better idea come Wednesday. I would definitely say that. I read the report you are discussing and I would say that’s inaccurate.”

From the sounds of things, Brees might not miss several games, but it’s a possibility that he misses Sunday’s contest if his arm does not recover in time.
