Sean Payton speaks out against guns

Sean Payton

Sean Payton has seen enough after his former player Will Smith was gunned down in New Orleans on Saturday night, and now he’s speaking out against guns.

“If this opinion in Louisiana is super unpopular, so be it,” Payton said to USA Today regarding his opinion about guns.

“Two hundred years from now, they’re going to look back and say, ‘What was that madness about?'” Payton said. “The idea that we need them to fend off intruders … people are more apt to draw them (in other situations). That’s some silly stuff we’re hanging on to.”

Payton also went on to say that he does not believe our founding fathers intended for citizens to have guns to kill each other with as frequently as that happens. He wants a country without guns, like England, where police don’t even carry them.

The Saints head coach since 2006, Payton also says the violence in New Orleans is as bad as it has been. It’s just that the information is keep quiet to protect tourism, and because the victims aren’t as high-profile as Will Smith.

“It’s like our big little secret,” Payton said. “They don’t want to kill tourism. But right now, it’s like the wild, wild West here.”

Tyrann Mathieu, who went to LSU and played high school ball in New Orleans, has also recently commented that the violence in the area is out of control.
