Seattle radio host will shave all body hair, walk in Speedo if Seahawks win division

The Seattle Seahawks’ season did not get off to a great start, and one Seattle radio host is making a bold wager that things will not get much better for them this year.

Softy Mahler, an institution in the Seattle sports radio scene as an afternoon host on KJR, was in a discussion with co-host Dick Fain on Tuesday about the Seahawks’ chances of winning the NFC West. Mahler says based on how good the Rams looked and how shaky Seattle was, there is “no chance” the Seahawks win the division. He even made a good wager about it.

“There is no chance they win the division!” Mahler said during his radio show. “None. Zero. I tell you what. If they win the division, I will shave every hair on my body, and I will walk down the sidewalk in nothing but a banana hammock. In a Speedo. I will shave every hair on my body, wear a Speedo, and walk up and down Elliott Ave.”

The discussion can be heard about 35 minutes into this link.

The Rams entered the season as a heavy favorite to win the division based on the improvements they made to last year’s division-winning team. They added Ndamukong Suh, Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters to a team that went 11-5 last season. The Seahawks meanwhile are in transition from their “Legion of Boom” teams; the Cardinals are in transition without Carson Palmer; and the 49ers are looking to emerge under Jimmy Garoppolo. With the exception of the Rams, all the teams in the division lost in Week 1.

As wild as what Mahler is putting on the line, it’s not even the craziest bet he’s made on air. Back in 1997, he made a bet on air over that year’s Apple Cup. When Washington State beat his beloved Huskies, Softy biked all the way to Pullman and into Martin Stadium to meet then-Cougars head coach Mike Price.

If you weren’t a Seahawks fan before, now’s the time to jump on the bandwagon. If not for the fun of rooting for the underdog, then for the fun of having to see Softy carry this out. His wager terms are actually tame compared to what else we’ve seen.
