Report: Some NFL owners still want to take action against Jerry Jones

Jerry Jones

Even if Jerry Jones doesn’t succeed in blocking commissioner Roger Goodell’s proposed extension, he may face some repercussions from other NFL owners.

A source told Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk that some owners want to aggressively punish Jones no matter what happens with Goodell’s extension. These owners don’t want to see Jones become another Al Davis — someone who can repeatedly try to feud with and take the NFL to court with no real repercussions — and are determined to make an example out of him to prevent that.

Florio notes that Jones’s detractors will not limit themselves to Goodell-related acts, and may use things like previous inappropriate quotes against him in their efforts.

It remains to be seen, but Jones may have bitten off more than he can chew this time. The news is bad enough for him — his anti-Goodell efforts look poised to fail in the weeks to come.
