You would think the guy would learn the first time around that you don’t rip on your starting quarterback — at least to the media and the free world. But apparently guys like Terrell Owens are the exception. As I posted at FanHouse, T.O. said in a recent Q&A with Time Magazine that he would prefer Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb over Tony Romo:

Man, that’s a tricky question. I don’t want to cause trouble … O.K., I would say Peyton Manning, then Donovan McNabb. Peyton has history on his side, with his dad being a quarterback, and you can’t say enough about how studious he is in the film room.
I guess the man just doesn’t learn. Recently, Roy Williams did a radio interview and said he wouldn’t want any other quarterback than Jon Kitna throwing to him. That’s quite a stretch, but that’s the type of confidence one player should have in his teammate, particularly when you’re talking about a receiver/quarterback relationship. In another question, T.O. also said he’s grown more fond of McNabb, who I feel without question, is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

You know what? I do regret some of the things that happened. Donovan is a great guy. Honestly, I do miss being around him. I learned some things from Donovan. It was a bad situation, and if there were a way I could go back and handle some things differently, I definitely would.
Now that sounds a heck of a lot more mature. Too bad the guy had to be stupid again and toss his teammate under the bus in the other answer.

That’s controversial?! Come on, you’re letting TO’s past color your judgment way too much. NBA players say stuff like “I’d love to have Lebron on my team” and no one makes a big deal about that putting the team’s current SF on the bench. Why does everyone have to see the QB position in football as being so sacred?
This posting looks like another attempt to use T.O. for publicity. It really is amazing how one guy can command so much attention over nothing. This quote is harmless, and I’m sure you can find better things in sports to write about. Come on Larry, don’t be like ESPN and dramatize sports through T.O. in order to get ratings, or page views. T.O. may have a big mouth, but he works his ass off in practice, he’s never broken the law, and has never been caught doing drugs or steriods.
If you want to write about something, how about Randy Moss not practicing for over a month, Rodney Harrison being suspended for roids, or Leftwich packing his bags in Jacksonville. Oh wait, none of these guys can create as much attention as a T.O. quote, so why bother.
Point well taken Stu, believe me, those guys are next on the list. But come on, you would think T.O. would layoff that type of question after what happened before, or at least defend his QB, wouldn’t you?

Reporters are getting better at asking these questions to create controversy. When something bad happens you ask the coach: Are you losing control of the team? The reaction is always broadcast worthy.
Haha yeah, but it’s T.O. For some reason those trick questions just don’t “click” in his head, so he just speaks whatever’s on his mind without realizing who it affects. I don’t really expect too much out of someone who said “people hated on Jesus too,” but I think he’s a good player and he gets way more negative press than he deserves.

Nobody cares about the gotcha game. Was he supposed to lie? I guess so which further demonstrates the downfall of everything we hold dear when a man can’t answer a question honestly without some schmo saying “Gotcha!”
Even though i think that your lead should have been the positive story of his McNabb comments, I am glad that you posted this. That was a pretyy mature thing for TO to say after all that has gone on
