Terrell Suggs has no plans to retire anytime soon

Terrell Suggs

Terrell Suggs saw his 15th NFL season end in heartbreaking fashion on Sunday, but he insists it is not going to be his last.

Suggs, who turned 35 in October, is one of the older players in football. While he is still playing at a high level, it would not be unusual for someone his age to mull retirement. But after the Ravens lost to the Bengals on a touchdown with less than a minute left, Suggs told reporters he isn’t planning to call it quits this offseason or in 2019.

“I plan on playing football for a few more years,” Suggs said, via Edward Lee of the Baltimore Sun. “Do you think I should quit?”

When a reporter said he does not think Suggs should hang up the cleats, the linebacker said he plans to play for “years to come.”

“My body isn’t what is hurting right now,” he added. “I plan on playing football next year and years to come.”

Suggs is under contract with the Ravens for reasonable money through next season, and he led the team in sacks this year with 11 and forced fumbles with four. He appeared in all 16 games and showed no signs of wearing down. He described Sunday’s loss as the “most devastating” he has experienced in his 15 years with the Ravens.

We heard similar questions about Suggs following the 2016 season, and he continues to prove the doubters wrong. His 125.5 career sacks are the most in Ravens franchise history, and he currently ranks 17th on the NFL’s all-time sacks leaders list. Suggs should be able to add to that total in 2018.
