Terrelle Pryor, Browns have reportedly discussed contract extension

Terrelle Pryor

Terrelle Pryor has emerged as one of the most versatile players in football, and the Cleveland Browns would be wise to do all they can to keep him around.

According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, the team is in the early stages of doing just that. Cabot reported on Thursday that the Browns have had preliminary discussions with Pryor’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, about a contract extension. Pryor is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

The Browns have around $50 million in salary cap space, so money should not be the issue. Pryor leads the team this season in receptions (33) and receiving yards (413) and has scored four touchdowns. He is currently playing under a one-year, $1.617 million deal. The former Ohio State star recently expressed a desire to stay in Cleveland.

“Cleveland’s awesome,” Pryor said. “The fans are are awesome. But right now, I’m here and I’m going to try to get it done.”

However, Pryor insists he is not concerned with his contract status at the moment.

“You don’t because right now my job is to be the best I can for the team,” he said earlier this week. “There’s so much stuff involved in that contract stuff. Right now I’m really focusing on Sunday and getting back out there and helping the team. I’m really looking forward to that.”

The big question is how much Pryor is worth. Should he be paid around $10 million like a top wideout, or does he deserve even more because of his versatility. Don’t forget, Pryor was a quarterback in college and has completed some passes this season when the Browns needed him.

Given the report we heard earlier this month about Pryor’s status with the team, it seems like a safe bet that the Browns will keep him around.
