Report: Things could get ‘ugly’ between Von Miller, Broncos

Von Miller

The Denver Broncos are reportedly nowhere close to agreeing on a long-term contract extension with Von Miller, and the end result could ultimately be a holdout.

According to Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole, things could get “ugly” between Miller and the Broncos this summer to the point where the Super Bowl MVP could consider skipping regular season games.

“This situation has gotten so ugly that you can anticipate Miller to consider whether he has to hold out until November to avoid playing under the one-year franchise tag,” Cole said. “He may even consider doing it for two straight years and ultimately hit free agency after the 2017 season.”

Both of those scenarios seem highly unlikely, but don’t expect Miller to admit that.

Miller, 27, is seeking to become the highest-paid defensive player in NFL history. He wants a contract that has a higher average annual value than the $19 million per season Ndamukong Suh makes with the Miami Dolphins. A recent report claimed the Broncos have offered nothing close to that.

If you remember, we saw this exact same scenario with one of the best wide receivers in football last season. Ultimately, these things almost always seem to work themselves out before a player misses actual games. That said, Miller is not going to be showing his face around the Broncos’ team facility much until the two sides get close to a deal.
