Report: Three teams may be interested in trading for Johnny Manziel
Why didn’t the Cleveland Browns cut Johnny Manziel on Wednesday? Apparently, it’s because they may be able to find a taker in a trade.
According to Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, as many as three teams may be interested in Manziel, and the Browns are holding on to the quarterback in the hopes that someone offers a conditional late-round draft pick for him.
Cabot also notes that the San Francisco 49ers may be one of the teams interested, as coach Chip Kelly once recruited Manziel while he was at Oregon, claiming the quarterback’s decision to go to Texas A&M “broke my heart.”
There are NFL talent evaluators who believe Manziel can still do something at the NFL level if he gets his head on straight, and there are probably teams out there who think they could pull it off. After all, if Greg Hardy can draw interest, who’s to say Manziel can’t?
ESPN’s Adam Schefter previously stated his belief that the Browns were holding onto Manziel to try to recoup some bonus money. A trade is another solution, though.
