Tim Jennings said he was late for parent-teacher conference during DUI arrest
Chicago Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was arrested for driving while under the influence on Wednesday at around noontime. If you think that’s a bizarre time to be drunk, you’ll be even more alarmed by where Jennings claims he was heading.
Jennings was initially pulled over because he was driving 99 mph in a 65-mph zone. According to a police report obtained by The Chicago Tribune, he told the arresting officer that he had “somewhere to be” was “running late.” That somewhere, supposedly, was a parent-teacher conference.
But don’t worry, Jennings insisted he was not intoxicated and had not had anything to drink since 2:00 a.m. — 10 hours before his arrest.
According to the report, when the officer requested to use an Alco-Sensor to detect whether alcohol was still present on Jennings’ breath, the Bears cornerback said “I am not blowing into that damn thing sir.” Jennings also refused “the 9 step walk and the one leg stand” sobriety tests.
We have heard some pretty entertaining comments from NFL players when they get popped for DUI, like the excuse Le’Veon Bell gave last summer when he was bagged for driving while high. But if Jennings really was heading to a parent-teacher conference with alcohol on his breath, there’s really nothing funny about it.
