Todd Gurley fine with resting even if it costs him rushing title

Todd Gurley

The Los Angeles Rams will rest a number of starters in their regular season finale, including MVP candidate Todd Gurley. It’s a decision that could cost the running back the NFL’s rushing title, but it’s not something he’s particularly worried about.

Gurley, who leads the league with 1,305 rushing yards, has several players nipping at his heels. Kansas City’s Kareem Hunt is 13 yards behind him, while Pittsburgh’s Le’Veon Bell is 14. The good news for Gurley is Bell will be rested as well, and there is a chance the Chiefs do the same with Hunt, leaving Buffalo’s LeSean McCoy 177 yards behind Gurley with the most realistic chance to overtake him.

Even if someone does take Gurley’s rushing title from him, he’s not all that worried about it.

“You’ve just got to look at the bigger picture,” Gurley said, via Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times. “Coach has a plan and he’s done nothing but right things since we’ve been in here, so you’ve got to trust him on this decision as well.”

It’s been a phenomenal season for Gurley, who predicted early on that the Rams could contend for a Super Bowl and looks pretty smart to have done so. Even if he doesn’t win the rushing title, he’ll get MVP consideration.
