Tom Brady’s dad would not be surprised if Bill Belichick cuts his son

Tom Brady’s future with the New England Patriots was called into question back in May when the team drafted quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo in the second round. Many wondered whether Bill Belichick had begun the process of replacing his two-time Super Bowl MVP. Then after the Patriots’ poor game against the Chiefs on “Monday Night Football,” there were some calls for the Pats to replace Brady with Garoppolo.

Though Belichick stuck with his Brady as his quarterback, Brady’s dad would not be surprised if the Patriots coach and unofficial GM one day cuts the two-time NFL and Super Bowl MVP.

During a recent sit-down with Andrea Kremer of NFL Network, Tom Brady Sr. spoke about the possibility.

“There are no sacred cows in the NFL,” Brady Sr. said. “If Bill Belchick doesn’t want him anymore, then Bill Belichick will get rid of him.”

Also in the interview, Brady Sr. called his son a “slow white guy” and said that was a reason he had doubts about whether his son could play high-level college football.

Another interesting item from the interview is that Brady Sr. says he and his son were (and remain) so close that he had to see a therapist for two months to get over his son choosing to attend college at Michigan instead of close to home in Northern California.

Maybe one day Belichick will have to cut Brady, but that day does not appear to be coming any time too soon given the way Tom finished the season. For now, that means Garoppolo will just have to settle for being the best-looking quarterback on the Patriots.
