Tom Brady: Patriots need to play with more energy

Tom Brady

Tom Brady is dissatisfied with his team’s energy level this season.

The New England Patriots got handled by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday 31-20 in a game they trailed for nearly the entire 60 minutes. That was a week after beating the Houston Texans 27-20 in the opener.

Brady was seen yelling at his teammates early in the game, and a day later he still is not happy with the way things went.

During his weekly interview with Westwood One Sports’ Jim Gray prior to “Monday Night Football,” Brady said the Patriots “need to play with more energy and more enthusiasm.”

Brady also talked about the team’s Monday acquisition of wide receiver Josh Gordon. He essentially said it’s up to Gordon to put in the work in order to have an impact this season.

“Any time you get someone in the middle of the season, there’s obviously a lot of things that have happened that have got the team to a certain point that they weren’t a part of. So you know, I’m not sure how many of those things matter, but you’d like to try to get up to speed as quickly as possible and it’s really up to the individuals…You know all these things need to play themselves out. I’m not going to project anything. I’m just going to try to go be the positive, enthusiastic leader that I am and try to be a great quarterback and try to embrace whoever’s on the team. And we’ve all got to play a lot better than we played yesterday and that’s really where our focus should be,” Brady said.

The 1-1 Patriots visit the Detroit Lions on Sunday night in Week 3. Gordon reportedly is healthy enough to play in the game.
