Tom Coughlin will not have role with Giants, dings front office

Tom Couglin

Tom Coughlin won’t be working with the New York Giants in any capacity in 2016, and it’s easy to see why.

Coughlin appeared on the Mike and the Mad Dog reunion Wednesday night, and it’s clear that there are some lingering hard feelings over his departure from New York.

“I haven’t heard anything about that,” Coughlin said of a formal role within the organization, via Ryan Lazo of the New York Post. “I don’t think I will be with them in any capacity this season.”

Coughlin also took a little shot at general manager Jerry Reese and the team’s front office, who have spent millions upgrading the defense during the offseason – millions that Coughlin slyly notes weren’t spent when he was there.

“I’m not bitter,” Coughlin said. “We know we aren’t winning a Super Bowl without a good defense. It didn’t happen then and now it is.”

Coughlin’s comments betray his assertion that he’s not bitter and make reports like this one a lot easier to believe. It’s abundantly clear that Coughlin wanted to keep coaching the Giants. He’ll have to settle for taking advantage of their facilities instead.
