Tom Coughlin could stay with Giants in another role
Tom Coughlin met with the New York media on Tuesday for a farewell press conference, but team owner John Mara left open the possibility of Coughlin remaining with the team in a role other than head coach.
The tone of Coughlin’s press conference made it fairly clear that he did not resign. The Giants obviously want to go in another direction, and Coughlin got irritated and said “not necessarily” when reporters asked him if he was done coaching. When Mara came to the podium after Coughlin, he said he wants the 69-year-old to remain with the organization.

Coughlin spoke very highly of the Giants organization and went out of his way to praise all the “football people” he has worked with over the years. If he wants to continue as a head coach in the NFL, we doubt he’d have any trouble finding work. But if he’s comfortable with the Giants and no relationships have been strained, a front office job might suit Coughlin nicely at this point in his career.
