Tony Romo takes huge hit to ribs, plays second half

Tony Romo took a huge hit to the ribs toward the end of the first half of the Dallas Cowboys’ season opener against the New York Giants, but he managed to return to the game for the second half.

Tony Romo hit GiantsRomo had excellent protection from his offensive line most of the game, but he stayed in the pocket and hung tough despite the pressure on that 2nd and 19 pass from the Dallas 37. Romo left the game after the hit and was replaced by Kyle Orton, who handed the ball off on 3rd down. Romo went 25-of-33 for 188 yards, one touchdown and one interception in the half.

Romo was examined by the Dallas trainers, and NBC was told that Romo only had the wind knocked out of him.

Despite being crunched around the midsection, Romo threw a touchdown pass in the third quarter and led the team to a field goal on their next offensive possession.

If we hear several weeks from now that Romo has been playing through cracked ribs, you’ll know exactly how and when it happened.
