Tony Romo showed off insane football IQ in Week 1 broadcasting debut

Tony Romo

Tony Romo drew some very positive reviews when he called his first ever regular season NFL game on Sunday. One of the reasons fans enjoyed listening to him so much is that it is clear the former Dallas Cowboys quarterback is a student of the game, and an A+ one at that.

Romo provided more than just color commentary during the Oakland Raiders-Tennessee Titans game. On a number of plays, he told viewers exactly what the offense and defense were going to do before they did it. Here’s a great video compilation:

While some people may have thought Romo was showing off a bit too much, others loved hearing real football analysis from a Pro Bowl quarterback who totally understands today’s game. You get some of that from guys like Troy Aikman, but the NFL game was much different on both sides of the ball when Aikman played. Romo has everything fresh in his mind, and that showed on Sunday.

A quick search on Twitter will show you that Romo received a lot of positive feedback while calling Sunday’s game alongside Jim Nantz. He should get even better as the season progresses.
