Report: Tony Romo willing to be backup to Dak Prescott

Tony Romo Cowboys

Tony Romo is getting closer to returning from a back injury, and the veteran quarterback understands he may be holding a clipboard once he is added to the 53-man roster. According to one report, Romo is fine with that.

A source told Ian Rapoport of NFL Media that Romo is willing to serve as a backup to Dak Prescott when he’s activated.

The Cowboys are 7-1 with Prescott as their starter, and they’re not going to change that unless the team starts losing games and Prescott suddenly struggles. One team executive already said he believes Romo is willing to accept a backup role for the good of the team, although the 36-year-old doesn’t have much choice.

It’s unclear how Prescott will respond to the pressure of Romo being healthy enough to play, but some recent comments the rookie made show how much his mentality has changed since Week 1. The job is his to lose.
