Vikings GM expects to have Adrian Peterson back next season

Adrian Peterson

Minnesota Vikings GM Rick Spielman gave the team’s fans some pretty good news on Wednesday when he said he expects to have Adrian Peterson back on the roster next season.

“We expect Adrian Peterson to be part of our football team,’’ Spielman said from the combine Wednesday via the St. Paul Pioneer Press’ Chris Tomasson.

Peterson was added to the commissioner’s list last year and was suspended the final six games of the season after he pleaded no contest to assault committed reckless against one of his sons. The former MVP is set to earn $12.75 million next season, though the money is not guaranteed.

“I think our whole organization is on that same page (about wanting Peterson back),’’ Spielman said. “What team wouldn’t want an Adrian Peterson talent? He’s unique player that you don’t see come around too often and Adrian’s been a key part of our organization. He’s made a mistake. He’s doing everything and he’s got to follow through and rectify and do the things the NFL is requiring him to do.”

Spielman’s comments echo those made by Vikings owner Mark Wilf, who said the team would love to have Peterson back.

There was heavy speculation that the Vikings would have to let Peterson go after the season because of the PR hit they would take for keeping him, but it sounds like they want him back. On the bright side for Minnesota, at least by having some time off Peterson should be fresh for next season.
