Vince Wilfork reportedly ripped name plate off locker, cleaned out things

Vince WilforkVince Wilfork apparently is pretty ticked off with the New England Patriots.

Two weeks ago it was reported that Wilfork asked the Patriots to release him. Wilfork is due $7.5 million next season and will cost $11.5 million against the salary cap if the team keeps him. If they release him, they save about $8 million, but he would still count about $3.6 million against the cap. The team wants him to re-work his current deal, and that’s left him upset with the situation.

According to The Boston Herald, Wilfork was so angry with the way his first contract talks with the Pats went this offseason that he not only asked for his release, but he also ripped the nameplate off his locker stall and cleaned out his locker.

Wilfork may have just been reacting to the situation at the time, but that doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

Wilfork is 32 and coming off a torn Achilles’ tendon injury, which probably explains why the Pats want him at a discount. The Pats’ run defense ranked 30th in the league last season without him around for most of the year following his injury.

Team owner Bob Kraft said Monday that Wilfork is one of his personal favorite players from the team and that he hopes they can work something out.
