Vince Wilfork upset after loss to Vikings: ‘It’s gut check time’

The Houston Texans can’t win a game against a quality opponent, and nose tackle Vince Wilfork is none too thrilled.

After a 31-13 loss to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Wilfork openly expressed his frustration.

“That’s two times facing an elite team and we didn’t look good,” the five-time Pro Bowler said, per Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle. “So, it’s gut check time. We’re way better than that, but we haven’t shown that. Until we show it, maybe I’m seeing things a little bit different. Maybe I’m screwed up. Until we show it, that’s who we are.

“Maybe if I wasn’t so competitive or didn’t give a crap, it wouldn’t bother me,” Wilfork continued. “I’m very competitive and it’s really bothering me. We got to figure it out. It’s frustrating, very frustrating. We’ll try to fix it. We got to figure it out.”

The Texans are actually still atop the AFC South at 3-2 on the season, even despite the loss. But couple it with an embarrassing 27-0 defeat in Week 3 to his former team the New England Patriots and it’s clear to Wilfork, who has been on two Super Bowl-winning rosters, that Houston is not in the same category as the top teams in the NFL.

Of course, the Texans are still reeling from the loss of three-time Defensive Player of the Year JJ Watt for the season, while new arrival Brock Osweiler has largely come out flat under center. They still have plenty of time to turn the tide though, so hopefully they can start with a big divisional game against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.
