Vince Young is shocked he has not heard from an NFL team

Vince YoungImagine how Vince Young must have felt on Thursday morning when a report surfaced that the St. Louis Rams contacted 44-year-old Brett Favre after Sam Bradford suffered a season-ending injury. Young, a former Heisman Trophy winner, is just 30 years old. He seems to be in decent physical condition and was on an NFL roster less than two months ago. Yet, his phone is not ringing.

On Wednesday, Young told Sirius XM NFL Radio’s Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt that he is shocked no teams have expressed interest.

“Me and my wife and all my peers and fans, we’re all trying to figure this stuff out,” he said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I don’t have the slightest idea. It’s like a huge question mark over my head every day I wake up in the morning to take care of my responsibilities and know I should be playing.

“To not have one of those calls, man, it’s tough.”

When the Green Bay Packers released Graham Harrell over the summer, it appeared Young had earned the team’s backup quarterback spot behind Aaron Rodgers. Instead, he too was given a pink slip when the Packers had to trim their roster down to 53.

“All the work I put into that, that short time I was there, I was very shocked to get cut,” he said.

A number of teams across the league are in desperate need of quarterback help. When Matt Schaub went down with an injury in Week 6 and TJ Yates stepped in and began turning the ball over, Young was quick to jump on Twitter and campaign for a job. There’s obviously something about his game that NFL teams don’t like. Given some of the horrible quarterbacks that have jobs at the moment, you can understand why that’s a tough pill for Vince to swallow.
