Von Miller reportedly threatened to request trade during contract negotiations

Von Miller

How acrimonious did the Von Miller negotiations with Denver get? Even in the latter stages, Miller and his agent threatened to seek a trade if they did not get the offer they wanted.

Mike Klis of KUSA detailed the negotiations, with Broncos president John Elway tabling the team’s final proposal, which included a $70 million guarantee over four years, around July 8. Miller’s agent, Joby Branion, submitted several counteroffers in an attempt to get more guaranteed dollars, but when Elway wasn’t willing to negotiate further, Branion suggested a potential trade and asked to speak to other teams.

Elway was unmoved. The Broncos held firm with their final offer, and it was the offer that Miller eventually accepted on Friday.

It sounds like this report was true – the Broncos made a final offer and told Miller to take it or leave it. Things definitely got tense at times, but for both sides, all’s well that ends well.
